Hound Dog Recovery & why they SUCK!
If you have even had your car repossessed, you know its super unpleasent. It seems that Hounddog Recovery in Bear, Delaware only made it worse. never had a vehicle repossessed before, i was unfamiliar with all the crap you have to do to get it back.
They like to collect the car at like 5am in the morning while you are sleeping, like little thieves, so when you wake in the morning, get dressed and out the door to work you go, "Blame" your car is gone. That’s what happened to me.
I called the loan company that owns the car, Wells Fargo and found out that they hired Hounddog Recovery to come pick it up. Yes I’ll admit it, i was behind on payments. Not an excuse, but when you have limited amount of money, keeping food on the table and electric on so you can have heat, a car gets knocked down the list of importance. When you don't have your car however, then you realize how important it can be.
i called this Hound Dog recovery company, and what a lame name. i wanted to find out where they were so i can pick up some much needed medicine in the car, that i keep in there so i can take it during the day. They were not forth coming with their address. They said if you wanted to schedule an appointment to collect some things, i would need to bring an ID, the keys and $50 to get anything out. i said i don't have $50 and the only thing i wanted, the only thing i needed was my medicine. They said nope can't do it, and that i would need to bring $50 cash, they don't take credit or checks. That’s sent up red flags to me, no credit cards. cash only, i bet they are trying to dodge the IRS or something.
thanks to family and friends, i was able to get the money together to get the car back, and to top it all off this repo company hounddog wanted to charge $45 a day storage for my car. how the hell am i suppose to come up with $400 for that. And being in the military i asked them if they had any kind of military discount or something to help out a service member who is struggling. Nope they didn't care.
when we first arrived to hounddog recovery we saw a pile of children’s car seats, maybe 15 or 20. that to me told me, look at all those families they helped take a bad life and made it worse. and these car seats were just thrown out as trash, they were still good children seats, they could have called good will up and they would have picked them up and got these seats to families in need.
You can’t find an entrance to this place or nothing. Just “beware of dog” signs, gates with massive locks, and barbed wire all over. Hounddog looked really dumpy. You wouldn’t know that this barred up windowed with a 2 inch gap at the bottom was the welcome window. You basically stand there, until someone looks up from their desk to even acknowledge you. They ask you to sign these 3 sheets of paper, which is dumb to do, because one is to release Hounddog Recovery from any legal liability if they damaged your car in tow. You sign it you are signing you inspected your car, how can you do that when they won’t let you inspect it. When I insisted and would not sign the paper work until I saw and inspect my car, they drove it up to the fenced in office. So I’m supposed to inspect my vehicle from 10 feet away, through the fence, while 2 big ass dogs are barking in my face. Hell no. Don’t let that happen, its not right.
One of the other pieces of papers is that you are receiving all your car items and that Hounddog did not steal anything. Watch out for that one. I found that half my stuff wasn’t even listed. They broke into my car, and dumped everything I hold valuable or important to me into 2 trash bags. These guys were ready for me not to pay the loan company back, and expected to quickly take my stuff out to sell. Just great. Definitely check that list, and don’t sign unless you know for sure. I know I had an EZ pass in there because I know hounddog used it going through the tolls back up to Bear, DE. I had the charges on my bill at 6am to prove it. And it was not on the list of my items, so they expected me to sign it and if it was not in the car, I was SOL. After I make some stink about it they ripped open the trash bags of my belongs and produced it and showed me through the fence.
So my advice to you with dealing with Hound Dog Recovery, is don’t sign anything till you are sure. Don’t except what they are telling you as the truth, they are too busy trying to cover their own ass. It is your car when you come to pick it up, they should give you some common curtsey.
